Snake-catching equipment care
Specialist equipment deserves a routine that goes beyond putting it back in the vehicle. Regular checks, cleaning and sensible storage help identify wear before it becomes a problem.
Inspect before each use
Check hooks and handles for damage, loose joints and changes in shape. Inspect bags, seams, closures and hoops for wear. If a component is damaged or you're unsure whether it's safe, take it out of service and follow the manufacturer's advice.
Clean for the material
Remove debris and clean equipment according to the product instructions. Use suitable cleaning methods, avoid incompatible chemicals and allow equipment to dry fully before packing it away. Keep clean and used equipment separate where practical.
Store so you can see what's missing
A consistent place for each item makes checks easier. Protect gear from unnecessary moisture, abrasion and loads that could distort it. Keep a short replacement list so worn parts don't stay in the kit by default.
Equipment isn't training
Snake handling and relocation require appropriate training, authorisation and local legal compliance. Buying a hook or bag doesn't make handling safe. If you encounter a snake and aren't qualified to manage it, keep your distance and contact a licensed professional; don't attempt to capture it.
